It was used on me after I had surgery in the hospital. I just wish Medicare or my insurance would pay for it. I was told that the cather part was a one time use and that can get very expensive. Especially for those on a limited income.

After surgery for a broken hip, I spent two weeks in a Rehabilitation Center. I had several PurWick catheters inserted in me and developed an itchiness. I assumed the itchiness would go away once the last catheter was removed. When I was at home, I had my son take me to an Urgent Care facility because the itchiness had gotten worse. I had a severe yeast infection and a UTI. Having never had a yeast infection, I never thought to mention the irritation to the Rehab Center's staff. I believe patients should be aware of this, as the PureWick is listed as "non-sterile", especially with geriatric patients. An unrecognized UTI can have severe effects on recovery.
